UNESCO launched a project in order to recognize the cities around the world with relevance in some specific fields. This project is called Creative Cities Network and Design is one of the main fields. Here you can find UNESCO’S selection of the world’s best Cities of Design.
BILBAO, SPAIN
Bilbao was chosen as one of the cities of design mainly because of their Bilbao Bizkaia Design and Creativity Council (BiDC), which is a 150-member body that fosters design and creativity through projects, initiatives, and exhibitions.
DUNDEE, SCOTLAND
Dundee is a very small city in Scotland but it has a rich history in design and textiles. This city has a special focus on community engagement projects though design. Most of these take place though their V&A Museum of Design.

BERLIN, GERMANY
Of course Berlin had to be chosen as one of the cities of design, as this city is home to more than 5,000 design students from five different art universities. Moreover, there are several design events that take place in this city such as Design Mai, The Berlin Photography Festival, and the Walk of Fashion.
HELSINKI, FILAND
Helsinki was chosen as one of the cities of design mainly because it is a city that used design to improve urban life for its one million of inhabitants.
GRAZ, AUSTRIA
In 2011, Graz, the second-largest city in Austria, was named as one of the cities of design by UNESCO. Before that, Graz was already names as a European Capital of Culture.

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
The main reason that has made Buenos Aires one of the cities of design is their Metropolitan Design Center (CMD), which functions as Buenos Aires’ design hub and it hosts, for example, the International Festival of Design.
BEIJING, CHINA
Beijing is a city that has a sharp focus on creative economy. There are 119 design colleges in Beijing and more than 30 Creative Cluster Areas throughout the entire city.
CURIBITA, BRAZIL
Curibita was chosen as one of the cities of design mainly because it is a city that uses design and creativity as an agent for enhancing its urban culture and improving standard of living for its neraly 1.8 million residents.
