Feast your eyes on Kelly Wearstler‘s latest design project! Wearstler assumes up to a color-soaked L.A. pad for a free-spirited growing family formed by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco and Lana Gomez.
When it came time to decorate her house, Gomez knew Kelly Wearstler could extract the couple’s fun-loving personality into an emotional, family-friendly roof where they could reside, achieve, and receive.
“They both love color, and their personalities are so unique,” reveals Kelly Wearstler, who acted jointly with Gomez on the design. “And Lana was pretty much up for anything.” But the residence itself—a Spanish-style bungalow spec home near West Hollywood that the pair picked for its clear design and blank-canvas appeal—lacked pizzazz.
“This is definitely one of my most playful projects.” Kelly Wearstler
To combine a little of architectural subtlety, the top interior designer had some skills up her sleeve: The square front opening was reshaped into an artistic arc, the switchback staircase was refashioned and arranged with brass railings, and doorways into the kitchen and dining room were built in Silver Portoro stone.
A layer of Cannon/Bullock wallpaper sheets in a variety of shades was implemented to surfaces everywhere in the house, conceiving the vision of vacancies in the spacious, open interior and giving the entire area a Technicolor brightness.
On the walls, Kelly Wearstler matched Gomez’s own paintings with pieces by Op Art maestro John Townsend and rising San Francisco talent Jonathan Anzalone. Preferably than use Gomez’s works throughout the home, though, Wearstler favorably suggested changing a few of them into painterly carpets.
While Kelly Wearstler, statement piece options expressed to the couple’s dynamism when a house is packed with such an idiosyncratic characters a moment of a debate is certain.
